Create an online store with WordPress and WooCommerce (even if you’re not an expert): A guide from scratch for people with big dreams and zero experience. You have the idea. You lack the how.
Imagine this: you have a product or a brand in mind. You’ve been dreaming for a long time of launching your online store, selling your stuff, sharing with the world what you do.
But every time you try to find out more, you come across technical terms like “server”, “plugin”, “database”… and you are left with no desire to learn more.
Breathe. This article is not for developers. It’s for you, who have an idea, a lot of desire and zero technical experience. We are going to analyze how you can set up your online store with WordPress and WooCommerce. No coding. Without stress. And without losing your enthusiasm.
Why WordPress + WooCommerce?
Because it allows you to build something professional without having technical knowledge in web development; the learning curve is low and the system is so intuitive that, when you least expect it, your store will be created.
WordPress is an intuitive and flexible platform, designed for people who want to have control of their site without relying on third parties.
WooCommerce, a CMS (Content Management System) that integrates seamlessly with WordPress, transforms your site into a complete store: shopping cart, product management and much more.
WordPress is the most widely used system in the world for creating websites, and WooCommerce is your best friend when it comes to setting up online stores.
They are free, customizable and have millions of users and tutorials in all languages. The key: you don’t need to know how to program. You can literally set up your store with clicks.
You may have read or heard that WooCommerce is the best CMS (Content Management System) for your WordPress store. What is a CMS? It is a software that allows you to manage digital content, i.e. websites and blogs.
Your online store from scratch (no headaches)
1. Buy your domain and choose a good hosting.
Your domain is the web address (e.g. primeratienda.com). And the hosting is the place where your web site lives, like the place where you will set up your store.
There are many providers that sell both together, and the best thing: they allow you to install WordPress with a single click. Some well-known and well-supported ones are Hostinger, SiteGround, Raiola Networks or Webempresa (among others).
Choose a simple plan to start with. You can expand it later.
2. Install WordPress
Once you have your domain and hosting, installing WordPress is like installing WhatsApp on your cell phone: you enter your hosting panel, click on “Install WordPress” and follow the basic steps (site name, login email and password).
And you have your website online!
3. Install WooCommerce (your store’s engine)
From the WordPress dashboard, go to “Plugins > Add New”, search for “WooCommerce” and click “Install” and then “Activate”.
The WooCommerce wizard will ask you things like: country, currency, what you sell, how you want to charge. It is very intuitive and you don’t need to know anything technical. Just answer with what you already know about your business.
4. Choose a beautiful and functional design
WordPress works with “themes”, which are ready-made designs that you can apply to your site. There are thousands of free ones.
Look for one that is compatible with WooCommerce, has good design and is easy to use. We recommend: Astra, Storefront, OceanWP or Hello Elementor.
Tip: Don’t be obsessed with having a perfect design from the beginning. The important thing is that it looks clear, clean and works.
5. Upload your products (as if you were setting up the showcase).
WooCommerce allows you to add products easily. From your dashboard, go to “Products > Add new”.
All you need is:
- Product name
- Price
- Description (be creative!)
- Beautiful image
- Optional: stock, category, labels
In case you have many products, WooCommerce allows you to import in bulk without adding them one by one.
To do this, create your catalog in Google Sheets or Excel, and, once you have it ready, save the file in CSV format to import it directly from the WooCommerce panel.
Think of it like creating your product cards in a catalog. You do it once, and then you can edit it whenever you want.
6. Configure the payment and shipping methods
WooCommerce comes ready to accept payments by wire transfer, PayPal or Stripe (cards). You just have to activate them from the configuration menu.
You can also set shipping rates, geographic zones and more. But you can start simple: for example, fixed shipping within your country or free delivery.
Tip: Don’t complicate shipping at the beginning. Make it easy for you and your first customers.
Here’s what the technical tutorials don’t always say:
- Don’t wait until you have everything perfect to launch. Start with what you have. You’ll get better and better along the way.
- Talk to your customers, listen to them, adapt. Your store is not just design, it’s conversation.
- Don’t be afraid to touch things. You won’t break anything serious. Everything can be fixed.
- Surround yourself with people who are in the same situation. There are Facebook groups, YouTube channels, communities that help for free.
- Use tools that make your life easier, such as visual editors or plugins that simplify tasks (for example, WonderShop, if you already know us, we invite you to tell us about your experience using our plugin).
Your online store is not an impossible dream
